When Katie plays with the full orchestra you can usually spot her in the middle of the stage with fellow woodwind musicians.

‘I distinctly remember playing Superman with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra as a teen and feeling elated – I knew I wanted to do this forever. I still love playing Superman.’

About Katie

An accomplished solo, chamber and orchestra musician, Katie was appointed as TSO Principal Flute in 2024.

She has performed with all Australian symphony orchestras and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and as guest principal with the Malaysian Philharmonic. 

Katie is a past winner of the Australian International Flute Competition, a Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellow and an alumna of the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and Australian National University School of Music.

She has performed concertos with the TSO and Orchestra Victoria and has twice been an artist-in-residence at The Banff Centre, Canada. 

Did you know?

Katie won her first audition with TSO (for a casual role) in 2007 when she was visiting Hobart with the Australian Youth Orchestra.

She spends her downtime running around after her young children. ‘I love my wind section, the work/life balance of the TSO, and being close to my partner’s family in Hobart’.

Favourite piece: Sibelius’ Violin Concerto.
