When Andrew plays with the full orchestra you can usually spot him in the middle of the stage with fellow woodwind musicians.
‘The lifestyle in Hobart is unbeatable and I love the chamber music nature of playing in the TSO.’
Andrew has been our Principal Clarinet since 2012, performing regularly as a soloist in Federation Concert Hall and in our Live Sessions gigs around Tasmania.
He has starred in many world premieres with the TSO and has been a guest principal with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia and the West Australian, Melbourne, and Canberra symphony orchestras.
Andrew plays in chamber music festivals and ensembles across Lutruwita / Tasmania and is a lecturer in clarinet at the University of Tasmania’s Conservatorium of Music.
A Victorian College of the Arts graduate, Andrew previously worked in the orchestra for Opera Australia’s outreach program, touring across Australia between 2009 and 2011.
In 2023, Andrew performed as co-soloist in the world premiere of Polar Opposites by Norweigian composer/conductor/violinist Henning Kraggerud.
Other career highlights include the world premieres of works by Tasmanian composer Jabra Latham.
A formative early experience was playing in his high school's woodwind ensemble. 'Our teacher would take us to perform gigs at all kinds of functions, from local RSL clubs to Parliament House in Melbourne. These experiences really fostered my love of playing music and performing.'
A nap, if possible!
