FAQs

The ACA is a globally significant program supporting the next generation of professional orchestra conductors. Managed by the TSO, the ACA is delivered in partnership with the Adelaide, Melbourne, Queensland, Sydney and West Australian symphony orchestras, Orchestra Victoria and Auckland Philharmonia. The academy gives conductors the opportunity of podium time with major orchestras and mentoring from renowned Australian and International conductors. The Program Director of the ACA is Benjamin Northey.

Run by the TSO, the ACS is a training program for practising orchestral composers. The two-year course is aimed at identifying and preparing composers for a career in orchestral composing. It aims to create opportunities for composers who graduate from the program to achieve commissions, including from professional orchestras. Successful applicants to the ACS will work with some of Australia’s leading composers as well as the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra to hone their orchestral writing skills.
