When Caleb plays with the full orchestra you can usually spot him at the middle right of the stage with fellow viola musicians.
‘Although we play similar instruments, viola players are always more chilled than violinists. Violin players tend to be more highly strung – pun intended.’
Caleb joined the TSO in 2022 as Principal Viola, having held the same position with the West Australian and Adelaide symphony orchestras and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
He worked for many years with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, including as guest principal, as well as with Orchestra Victoria.
An alumnus of Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium of Music and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), Caleb also studied in Germany and worked with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Caleb is married to our Associate Concertmaster Ji Won Kim and they have two sons.
Known for his deadpan humour, Caleb enjoys coming up with ideas for off-stage social activities among TSO colleagues.
