When Greg plays with the full orchestra you can usually spot him in the middle left of the stage with fellow horn players, between the violinists and percussionists.

‘A formative musical experience for me was singing in the Opera Australia chorus as a child – it opened my eyes to the possibilities that music can bring.’

About Greg

Greg has performed with all the major orchestras of Australia and as a guest principal with the Auckland Philharmonia.

In Europe he has played with the Essener Philharmoniker (Germany) and the Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck (Austria).

Greg studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the University of Music Karlsruhe in Germany.

He returned from Europe in 2008 to take up a Tutti Horn position with the TSO and became Principal Horn in 2021.

Greg enjoys the warm friendly orchestral environment in Tasmania. ‘I also enjoy the compact city of Hobart, with all of its conveniences but at a human scale’.

Favourite piece: Der Rosenkavalier by Strauss. ‘I love the raucous energy and over the top – in a good way – emotions’.
