When William plays with the full orchestra you can usually spot him at the middle right of the stage with fellow viola musicians.

'One of my most vivid TSO performance memories is playing Mahler’s Ninth Symphony next to the Australian Youth Orchestra under Sebastian Lang-Lessing.'

About William

As well as playing in our viola section, William is a regular MC at TSO concerts, providing our audience with informative (and humorous) insights into the music.

He grew up in the Adelaide Hills and took up the viola at primary school.

William had an interest in orchestral music from a young age and became serious about his viola studies when he won a place in the special music stream at Adelaide's Marryatville High School.

He went on to study at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide, the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in Melbourne and the Musikhochschule Koeln in Germany.

Did you know?

William joined the TSO in 2007 and has also performed extensively with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and with the Sydney and Melbourne symphony orchestras.

He has featured in live broadcasts on ABC Classic several times in solo and chamber music recitals.

Pre-concert habits

Playing as little as possible directly before a concert. 'I don't like sitting on a stage with an audience and waiting for a performance to begin. I prefer the relative peace backstage.'
