When Karina plays with the full orchestra you can usually spot her at the middle right of the stage with fellow viola musicians.
'I started on the violin when I was five, but when I first picked up the viola at age 12 it was an instantaneous, life-altering attraction.'
About Karina
An American violist, Karina is thrilled to find herself living and performing in what she calls the rich and vibrant scene of Nipaluna / Hobart.
Before moving to Lutruwita / Tasmania from Sydney, Karina was principal violist with Pinchgut Opera’s Orchestra of the Antipodes and the Australian Haydn Ensemble.
She also appeared regularly with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra, Bach Akademie Australia, and Van Diemen’s Band.
Hailing from Philadelphia, Karina studied at the New England Conservatory in Boston and the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Karina has a passion for historically informed performance and has held principal positions with period music ensembles such as the Handel and Haydn Society, Apollo’s Fire, and Tempesta di Mare.
She returns to the US each year to perform at the Carmel Bach Festival in California.
Karina plays a unique viola made by Hiroshi Iizuka in Philadelphia in 1987.
