When Ji Won plays with the full orchestra you can usually spot her at the front left of the stage with fellow violinists.
'Someone once told me to play Mozart like an operatic singer. That changed everything. The nuance, the colours, how a singer starts and ends a note – it opened up Mozart for me.'
Ji Won has been Associate Concertmaster of the TSO since 2022. She also performs regularly across Australia and overseas as a soloist and chamber musician.
Born in Korea, Ji Won grew up in Melbourne and studied in Europe, graduating with high distinction from Vienna’s Music Hochschule at 19.
In 2005 she won first prize at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria and, in 2009, she was named ABC Young Performer of the Year.
Ji Won has held guest leadership roles with the Melbourne, Adelaide and West Australian symphony orchestras and the Malaysian Philharmonic.
As Associate Concertmaster, Ji Won plays a leadership role in our violin section and the orchestra as a whole – during rehearsals and performances.
