Adrian Whitehall

Tutti Double Bass

When Adrian plays with the full orchestra you can usually spot him at the front right of the stage with fellow double bass musicians.

About Adrian

Adrian grew up in Wollongong and started playing double bass at 10, after beginning on classical guitar and electric bass.

He played with Sydney Youth Orchestras from the age of 11, and took part in Australian Youth Orchestra programs and the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Emerging Artist Program.

A highlight was touring Europe and China with the AYO in 2019, including performing at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw with members of his Dutch extended family in the audience.

Adrian studied at the Sydney Conservatorium and Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).

Now settled in Nipaluna / Hobart, Adrian enjoys the small communities, friendly people and the general beauty of Tasmania. ‘I also love the cold and, cliché or not, the fresh clear air!’

Did you know?

Adrian DJed for several years while at university and produced his own electronic dance music under an alias (which he’s so far refusing to reveal).
He became hooked on golf while playing with the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand and is currently working his way through Tasmania’s most picturesque courses.
Adrian is a keen sports fan, following everything from Formula 1 and the NBA to AFL, tennis and the football World Cup.

Pre-concert habits

A short nap, a coffee and some heavy metal or drum and bass. ‘To get me hyped up for the concert.’

Interests

Pickleball. ‘I’ve started getting into it thanks to my sister Mia – it is a super fun sport!’.
Writing music – both orchestral and electronic. ‘I took a break from writing after uni but I’m starting to dive back into it and discovering new sounds to play with’.
