When Martin plays with the full orchestra you can usually spot him at the front centre-right of the stage with fellow cellists.

‘I love the fresh air, cool climate and ease of living in Hobart and the varied programming and agile nature of our orchestra – as well as being part of the wider music community across the state.’

About Martin

Martin has been in the TSO’s cello section since 2008. He enjoys collaborating with guest artists and performing and teaching in regional communities.

He plays in chamber ensembles around Lutruwita / Tasmania including Van Diemen’s Band and Lutruwita Art Orchestra.

Martin has performed with the Sydney, Melbourne and West Australian symphony orchestras.

He studied at the Australian Institute of Music and is an alumnus of the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra fellowship program.

Favourite music: ‘I definitely feel drawn towards Czech composers, which isn't surprising given my dad grew up in Prague’.

Did you know?

Martin teaches cello across the state, including with the University of Tasmania and as part of TSO’s community outreach program. ‘I enjoy playing and teaching in communities that have limited access to music education’.

Martin began cello at age seven. ‘I heard another student performing The Swan by Saint Saens and asked to learn cello straight away – piano took a sideline from then on’.
