About Melissa

Born in Brisbane, Melissa grew up playing as many instruments as she could, starting with piano at age three and trying everything from recorder to bagpipes.

Before moving to Hobart to join the TSO in 2024, she had a busy freelance career in Sydney, working with the country's major symphony orchestras as well as Orchestra Victoria, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.

Melissa studied at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and took part in the Sydney Symphony Sinfonia program and the Sydney Symphony Fellowship program.

During her studies, she played as principal bassoon with the Queensland Youth Symphony and attended the Australian Youth Orchestra’s National Music Camp.
