Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii will perform with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra on 2 November 2024.
Nobu, as he is nicknamed, will perform Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto with the TSO at the Federation Concert Hall, under the direction of our Chief Conductor Eivind Aadland.
When Tsujii first came to Australia in 2016, his tour was limited to Sydney and Canberra, but this time he is playing in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Brisbane.
His recent concert with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra can be heard via ABC Classic FM.
Nobu has been blind since birth and Australian arts journalist Ria Andriani has written a fascinating article about the techniques he uses to learn music.
‘My assistant plays the right hand and the left hand [of the piano piece] separately and has the sound recorded,” Tsujii told Andriani for her ABC article.

Tsujii also described how he takes his cues from the orchestra or ensemble he's playing with.
‘I can feel the breathing of the musicians around me,’ he told Andriani.
For his Australian tour, Tsujii is performing some of the most difficult piano pieces ever written, including Rachmaninov's third piano concerto, well known to audiences through the movie Shine.
