How do I book my school or class into a concert?

Easy! Just select Book Now on the event page, where you’ll be prompted to enter your school details, number of students and teachers, and any access requirements. Free concerts and events can be booked immediately with no credit card details required. Paid Schools concerts and events are booked via the same process and will be invoiced directly to your school after booking. Once your booking is complete, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all relevant event information.

What if my school or class can no longer attend?

If your school or class is no longer able to attend, please notify the TSO Box Office as soon as possible. This allows places to be offered to other schools and helps us manage capacity and staffing.

What supervision ratios are required at TSO concerts and events?

Schools are responsible for providing appropriate supervision in line with Tasmanian Department of Education excursion guidelines. As a minimum, TSO requires: Primary school groups: 1 teacher per 10 students, Secondary school groups: 1 teacher per 15 students. Schools may choose to increase supervision based on their own risk assessment, student needs, or school policy.

Are TSO concerts and events accessible?

TSO school concerts and events are presented at a range of venues across Tasmania. We always do our best to create an accessible environment for each event. You can see the accessibility information for each venue on the respective event page.

Can TSO for Schools events be adjusted for students with different needs?

Overview

Open rehearsals are a great opportunity for secondary school students to observe the rehearsal process of a professional orchestra in real time. Your students will see and hear how the conductor and the musicians work together to prepare music for performance.

This activity includes a verbal introduction and a worksheet to help your students get the most out of the experience. This a rare behind-the-scenes opportunity for your music students to look inside the world of professional musicians. It might even spark an interest in a career as a conductor, member of production crew or another job in the arts!

Each open rehearsal lasts a maximum of 2.5 hours, with a 20 minute break. Rehearsal repertoire and end times are at the discretion of the conductor on the day.
