The TSO has been recognised in the Australian Art Music Awards for the orchestra’s school concert program.
Each year, the APRA AMCOS Art Music Awards celebrate outstanding achievements across 15 categories, including music education, composition, performance, and activity in regional areas.
The TSO has been named one of four national finalists for the Award for Excellence in Music Education.
‘The TSO’s School Concerts program was developed to be educational and entertaining, while demonstrating to teachers how easy it can be to integrate music into the classroom,’ says the TSO’s Director Artistic Development Kim Waldock.
‘The concerts are supported with free online lessons for classroom teachers to share with their students, ensuring all children have access to quality music education. This is especially important in the increasing number of public schools without specialist music teachers.’
TSO chief executive Caroline Sharpen says the orchestra is on track to perform to more than 12,000 students in 2025.
‘We are well on our way to achieving our vision that by 2030 every Tasmanian child will experience their orchestra by grade 3,’ Caroline says.
The 2025 Art Music Awards will take place on Thursday 21 August at the City Recital Hall in Sydney.
