Woolmers 1
Robert Schumann Adagio and Allegro for horn and piano, Op 70
Mendelssohn Piano Trio No 1 in D minor, Op 49
Julian Leslie, horn, Christopher Nicholas, violin, Ivan James, cello, and Karen Smithies, piano.
Chamber music is unlike any other concert experience. It’s music under a microscope, creating an incredibly intimate dynamic that unfolds in front of you; between each player, and of course between the players and the audience.
This concert showcases the music of two friends and associates, Schumann and Mendelssohn. The principal work, Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No 1, presents a grand tapestry of moods and emotions. It is preceded by Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro for horn and piano, which was described by Clara Schumann, the composer’s wife and a highly regarded musician in her own right, as ‘a magnificent piece, fresh and passionate.’
Held at beautiful Woolmers Estate in Longford, Woolmers 1 is curated by TSO’s Principal First Violin, Jennifer Owen. Make a day of it and enjoy special music in a special setting.
