Mendelssohn Violin Concerto
Grieg Lyric Pieces, Op 68, Nos 4 & 5
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor, Op 64
Harrison Centrifuge
Grieg Norwegian Dances, Op 35
Conducted by Eivind Aadland, featuring violinist Ji Won Kim.
Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto is indisputably one of the great Romantic works for violin and orchestra. Hear it performed by Ji Won Kim, TSO’s recently appointed Associate Concertmaster. A graduate of the famed Vienna Hochschule with high distinction, Ji Won has been a prize-winner at numerous international competitions and has performed a soloist across Australia, Asia, the USA and Europe.
On the subject of Australian talent, the concert includes Centrifuge, a new work by composer Holly Harrison, who has worked closely with the TSO in recent years and knows the orchestra inside out.
The concert is bookended by works by Grieg: the delicate Lyric Pieces and the more extrovert Norwegian Dances. Conductor Eivind Aadland has a deep familiarity with the music of fellow Norwegian Grieg and is attuned to its flourishes, nuances and beauties.
