Obscura 1 | Tawadros
Original compositions by Joseph Tawadros AM
Joseph Tawadros curator & oud performer, with Emma McGrath on violin and TSO Strings.
Joseph Tawadros can play 52 instruments, but his oud-playing is out of this world.
You have not heard enough of the oud in Tasmania, but that’s all going to change at our first Obscura of the season.
When the oud comes to the Odeon, you’ll see it in the arms of a man who plays it a little bit like a guitar. The back of this Arabic stringed instrument is curved for resonance, while its face is intricately carved and inlaid with pearl.
It’s okay if you don’t notice any of this. Because the music that emanates from this oud, composed by its soloist Egyptian-Australian Joseph Tawadros, will be all-encompassing. You’ll only remember where you are when Joseph hits pause so he can talk to you between these transportive works.
Hear the eight-time ARIA Award-winner perform his original compositions for oud and string orchestra in the Odeon.
