Clara-Jumi Kang

Federation Concert Hall, Nipaluna / Hobart

Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D, Op 35
Dvořák Symphony No 7 in D minor, Op 70

Conducted by Eivand Aadland, featuring Clara-Jumi Kang on violin.

Phenomenally talented violinist Clara-Jumi Kang makes her Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra debut, masterfully demonstrating how Tchaikovsky’s one and only violin concerto has earned a place in the hearts of audiences everywhere. Rising to the work’s many challenges, Tchaikovsky’s concerto is so incredibly taxing the violinist who was supposed to give the world premiere backed out claiming that it was impossible.

Following the ‘unplayable’ concerto is Dvořák’s seventh symphony. A grand, Romantic-era symphony, the orchestration is lavish and the emotional terrain is varied with just the right mix of pathos and exhilaration. Added to that, it culminates in an intensely felt finale, a brilliant finish to what we promise will be an altogether sublime concert.
