A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Weber Oberon, Overture
Shostakovich Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and String Orchestra Op 35
Honegger Pastorale d’été
Mendelssohn A Midsummer Night’s Dream Op 21 and 61 (selections)
Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and Strings is the perfect canvas for two young stars to shine as TSO Principal Trumpet Fletcher Cox makes his solo debut alongside New Zealand pianist, Sylvia Jiang.
Mendelssohn’s music for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which he started writing at just 16, captures enchantment and mischief before culminating in the joyful, instantly recognisable Wedding March.
The program is opened by Weber’s shimmering Oberon Overture, while Estonian conductor Olari Elts brings his irrepressible energy to the podium.
