Weekend at Woolmers: Moonlight Sonata
Bartók Contrasts
Beethoven Piano Sonata No 14, Op 27 No 2 ‘Moonlight’
Schoenfeld Trio for violin, clarinet and piano
Andrea Lam on piano, Miranda Carson on violin, and Eloise Fisher on clarinet.
Beethoven’s moody Moonlight sits alongside the mellow tones of Bartók’s Contrasts.
We have invited our very own clarinettist Eloise Fisher to perform Bartók’s colourful Contrasts in Woolmers Estate. The mellow voice of this wind instrument continues to burst with life in Schoenfeld’s trio, which makes a fine companion piece on our program: Schoenfeld was himself a chamber player, and had a special interest in the music of Bartók.
Between these works, and between the stone walls of this 19th-Century farming estate, you will hear one of the most cherished piano works of all time: Beethoven’s moody ‘Moonlight’ sonata.
