Karin Schaupp
Borodin Polovtsian Dances
Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez
Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade, Op 35
Conducted by Alan Buribayev, featuring Karin Schaupp on guitar.
One of the most outstanding guitarists on the international scene, Karin Schaupp brings exotic and faraway realms to life.
The Concierto de Aranjuez – often simply known as the Rodrigo Guitar Concerto – utilises the culture of flamenco and fandango, and is widely considered the most famous work of classical music to come from Spain, capturing the melodies, rhythms and vistas of the Iberian peninsula.
Following this most beloved of guitar concertos, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade takes its inspiration from 1001 Nights, a classic work of Arabic literature. Drawing upon this rich repository of legends and fables, Rimsky-Korsakov fashions one of the most colourful and captivating works in the orchestral literature.
