Dvořák String Quintet
Britten Simple Symphony
Dvořák String Quintet No 2 in G major, Op 77
Ji Won Kim and Lucy Carrig-Jones on violin, Douglas Coghill on viola, Jonathan Békés on cello, and Stuart Thomson on double bass.
A charismatic string quintet pairs perfectly with a Simple Symphony.
Benjamin Britten wrote an intimate symphony for strings, and it is a beautiful match for the countryside Woolmers Estate. After you stroll through the rose garden and explore the historic cottages on the grounds of this old Longford farm, you will sink into your seat to hear Britten’s Simple Symphony.
The English composer named each movement after the way his music feels, from its Playful Pizzicato to the Sentimental Sarabande, Boisterous Bourrée and Frolicsome Finale. Five of our exceptional string players will welcome you into this colourful musical experience.
They will then perform Dvořák’s charismatic string quintet. He composed this chamber music in 1875, making it a few decades younger than the UNESCO World Heritage Site at which you will hear it.
