Reconciliation
The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra acknowledges the traditional owners and continuing custodians of Lutruwita / Tasmania.
We pay respect to the Aboriginal community today, and to its Elders past and present.
We acknowledge the impacts of colonisation upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and stand for a future that profoundly respects their stories, culture, language and history.
Reconciliation Action Plan
At the TSO we recognise that our contribution to the music of our place is less than the blink of an eye compared with the more than 40,000-year continuum of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture.
Launched in August 2022, our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan is a symbol of our willingness to be of service and to share – through stories and music – the truth of our history as well as our hope for the future.
Discover more about the TSO's commitment to reconciliation, led by our CEO and Board, by reading our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan below. Our Innovate RAP was approved by Reconciliation Australia in late 2025, and will be published shortly.
Reconciliation Partner
Our partnership with TasNetworks supports a generationally important language and music project in schools across Lutruwita / Tasmania and facilitates shared cultural awareness training for TSO musicians and staff alongside TasNetworks employees.
As the TSO’s Reconciliation Partner, TasNetworks is helping to support our collaboration with renowned palawa artist Dewayne Everettsmith – Songs of Ceremony: Reawakening Songs in palawa kani.
TasNetworks’ support enables this exciting project to be embedded in schools across the state and supports the employment of Aboriginal artists, educators, and staff.
