Science and Sound

Bring TSO musicians to your school for a fun, hands-on exploration of the science behind music.

Perfect for curious minds, kids (and adults!) love our Science and Sound sessions. Two musicians from the TSO visit your school to explore the science of sound. Aligned to the primary school science curriculum, these interactive concerts help to teach students how different instruments work. Students get to make predictions based on what they learn, helping to spark curiosity about music making and the science that underpins it.

This program is supported by Launceston Airport, Variety Tasmania and TSO Business Collective.

"We are a small school, but sure do appreciate the TSO coming. A few teachers said they just wanted the show to keep going! The kids had such a blast. It's such a great initiative, thank you for doing what you do."

– String Teacher (Penguin, Tasmania)

"The students' enthusiasm and engagement are a testament to their wonder and curiosity. The musicians’ commitment to fostering music education is invaluable. We eagerly await the TSO's return to the North West and look forward to future collaborations."

– Principal (West Ulverstone, Tasmania)

"To see some of my students who usually struggle to maintain focus absolutely glued to the performance and keen to ask questions throughout was just lovely. The presentation leads very well into their science focus on sound as part of the Australian curriculum for science."

– Music Teacher (Somerset, Tasmania)

"It was brilliant! The musicians were very engaging and the students loved it. The content fitted in well with the students’ prior knowledge."

– Year 4 Teacher (Hobart, Tasmania)
