Presenting pop-up performances from Tasmania's orchestra across Tasmania
Musicians from the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra will embark on the inaugural TSO TO YOU, a state-wide community tour Oct 13-15, 2021. Over 20 pop-up performances will take place at community centres, schools, aged care facilities and other venues around Tasmania. Some venues are also hosting a morning tea or a performance from members of their community.
With far-reaching locations including Scottsdale, Latrobe, Burnie, Devonport, Bicheno, New Norfolk – as well as Hobart and Launceston – the TSO is aiming to connect with as many Tasmanians as possible in this up-close, community performance project. Musicians are stepping out of their usual orchestral roles and reconfiguring to form varied and unusual ensembles. From string quartets, horn trios, oboe and percussion duos, all sections of the orchestra will be represented.
Performances will be approximately 20 minutes, followed by an opportunity to meet the musicians.
TSO CEO Caroline Sharpen said: “When we found an unexpected opening in our schedule we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pack our instruments and send musicians in all directions across the state. The TSO is committed to our loyal audiences from all corners of Tasmania who have supported us, not just through the challenges of 2020 and 2021, but for the last 73 years. This tour – the first of its kind for the TSO - is our way of sending a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to our friends and supporters by delivering a dose of Tasmania’s orchestra right into their community.’
