Anatoly Lyadov was born in 1855 in Saint Petersburg, Russia and died in 1914 at his country estate in Polynovka, Russia. He is notorious for being expelled from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s prestigious composition class at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1876 for non-attendance. Lyadov was given a second chance and after he graduated in 1878, Lyadov joined the teaching staff of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory.
Lyadov was a fine pianist and is recognised for his beautifully crafted piano works and straightforward “no frills” style of composition.
