Lisa Cheney was born in 1987 in Sydney and grew up in Queensland, on the Gold Coast.
Lisa will soon complete a PhD in music composition at the University of Melbourne and is passionate about championing new composition. She co-founded ‘Making Waves’, a monthly series of curated playlists for streaming, that feature many new Australian compositions. Lisa was also an executive producer of ‘Making Conversation: Australian Composers’ Podcast’ and in 2017, she was named the Victorian Young Achiever of the Year for Arts.
Lisa is an accomplished composer and has written works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, voice, acousmatic collaborations, theatre, ballet and opera. She was part of a national collaboration of female artists and arts professionals who created The Owl and the Pussycat, a landmark musical work for children that premiered on Surfers Paradise beach as part of Festival 2018.
Lisa is an alumnus of TSO’s Australian Composers’ School and was commissioned by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra to write Echoes and Threads for TSO Songbook, a suite of online education resources to support learning in primary classrooms.
