The TSO In Your Classroom

With Richard Gill AO

The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in your Classroom with Richard Gill AO
Insights into the workings of music with Richard Gill AO

In June 2016, the TSO had the pleasure and unique opportunity to film Richard Gill AO and the TSO in Open Rehearsal-style sessions with students from Goulburn Street Primary School, St Aloysius Catholic College K-4 Campus, Elizabeth College and The Friends’ School. The result is a set of fascinating videos that show how music works and share the themes of developing listening skills and instrument recognition.

Many thanks to composers Julian YuLisa Cheney and Gordon Hamilton for generously sharing their wonderful works for this project and to the James N. Kirby Foundation for providing financial support.

The TSO resource writers, all music educators, honour the life and work of the late Richard Gill AO. Through his inspirational teaching, wit, energy and passionate advocacy, his influence on the practices of children’s music education in Australia is wide-ranging, lasting and profound.
