Excitement for Season 2025

30 September 2024

Our very own concertmaster Emma McGrath has described the TSO’s Season 2025 as 'one of the best programs she’s seen' and the response from subscribers so far has been phenomenal.

2025 Season Notebook

We held a soft launch of next year’s season earlier this month, with subscribers given exclusive first access to book tickets as part of a concert package. This included the chance to book early for one of the highlights of the coming year - Joyce DiDonato’s Australasian premiere.

DiDonato is a multi-Grammy award winning opera superstar and the first concert of her long-awaited tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2025 will be with the TSO in a gala concert in November 2025. Joyce tells us she is over the moon to be coming to Tasmania, a destination she says she can hardly comprehend.

As our Director Development, Sarah Morrisby says, it is a coup for Tasmania to be hosting the Australasian debut of this incredible star of New York’s Metropolitan Opera.

‘To experience (Joyce) in Tassie instead of heading overseas to the Met? You’ll find me in the front row,’ Sarah says.

Emma, who is busily preparing for next month’s Mendelssohn and Saint-Saens concert, has shared why she is excited about Season 2025.

‘I really think this is one of the best seasons I’ve seen since I’ve been here,’ Emma says. ‘If I had to choose one must-see concert it would have to be Four Last Songs with Siobhan Stagg (29 March 2025 in the Federation Concert Hall). Siobhan is an amazing, amazing vocalist. We augment the orchestra to maximum capacity with musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music, so it feels like a real party on stage,’ Emma says.

Our Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Eivind Aadland called out Brahms’ Violin Concerto (1 March 2025 in the Federation Concert Hall), which will feature violinist James Ehnes.

‘I first met (Ehnes) 15 years ago when I stepped in at short notice for a concert in France and James Ehnes played the Beethoven concerto. It was absolutely wonderful.'

'To me, he’s one of the top five violinists in the world today and to do this wonderful piece by Brahms, he will do it absolutely fantastically,’ Eivind says.
