Towards Takayna, by Nigel Westlake, takes its inspiration from the staggering natural beauty of Tasmania’s north-west. Composed specifically for guitarist brothers Leonard and Slava Grigoryan, this important new work receives its Tasmanian première in this concert. It is followed by the serenely beautiful Symphony No 7, ‘Angel of Light’, by acclaimed 20th-century Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara which draws upon influences as diverse as age-old liturgical music, folk traditions and mystic minimalism.
