Strauss Horn Concerto

As Serena Williams is to tennis and Heston Blumenthal is to cooking, Stefan Dohr is to the French horn – widely ranked among the best of the best. Principal Horn with the Berlin Philharmonic, Stefan Dohr makes his TSO debut performing not one but two horn concertos: the Concerto No 3 by Mozart and Concerto No 1 by Richard Strauss.

Capping off this night of high-level music-making is Schubert’s Symphony No 9 which, as fate would have it, commences with a famous horn call. Nicknamed ‘Great’ by admirers in the 19th century and lauded by Robert Schumann for its ‘heavenly length’, Schubert’s Ninth has collected accolades ever since. Experience this heavenly work for yourself with the TSO under Chief Conductor Eivind Aadland.
