Strauss Horn Concerto

From its opening clarinet glissando to its sublime piano melodies, Rhapsody in Blue is immediately recognisable and quintessentially American. A musical equivalent of The Great Gatsby, Gershwin’s rhapsody captures the jazzy spirit of the roaring 1920s. Gershwin had many famous fans, among them French composer Maurice Ravel. Gershwin even performed his hugely popular rhapsody at Ravel’s 53rd birthday party in New York.

Also on our jazz-inspired program is the Australian première of Luke Styles’ saxophone concerto. It showcases the instrument’s amazing versatility in the concert hall.
