Musicians from the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra perform an hour-long program of chamber music in the intimate surrounds of the Nigel Peck Centre at historic Woolmers Estate, Longford.
The program gets off to a radiant start with Mozart’s Oboe Quartet K370, which is less well known than the celebrated Clarinet Quintet but every bit as tuneful. Composed for one of the oboe virtuosos of Mozart’s day, it promises to soar with Shefali Pryor, TSO Principal Oboe, as soloist. Two 20th-century chamber classics complement the program: Dohnányi’s Serenade Op 10, a dazzling showpiece for string trio, and Britten’s Phantasy Quartet for oboe and strings, which first brought the young English composer to international attention.
