Strauss Horn Concerto

Fire and water are the elements conjured up in this concert, which opens with the second movement of ‘Black Summer’ by Paul Dean, commissioned by the Australian World Orchestra and written in the aftermath of the devasting bushfires of 2019-20. Paul Dean appears as soloist in Graeme Koehne’s Time is a River, a gentle meditation on the passage of time and the journey of life. The concert finishes with the joyous notes of Schumann’s Symphony No 3, which summons the Rhine river in its nickname, ‘Rhenish’.
