We’re turning 75 and it’s time to party! We usher in our Diamond Jubilee celebrations with this Gala Concert, which commences with the blazing fanfares of Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, after which Czech pianist Lukáš Vondráček takes to the stage as soloist in Tchaikovsky’s enthralling First Piano Concerto. The celebratory mood continues after interval with Rachmaninov’s gorgeous and colourful Symphonic Dances, rarely heard in Tasmania on account of the sizeable number of musicians required. To that end, we are delighted to welcome to our ranks instrumentalists from the Australian National Academy of Music.
Chief Conductor Eivind Aadland brings his trademark artistry to this larger-than-life celebration of the TSO and all that we have achieved in 75 years. To mark the occasion, we invite you to get into the party spirit by dressing up for this gala.
