Arrangements for wind ensemble of favourite melodies
Mozart’s love of the clarinet is well known. Less well known is the fact that Mozart lavished tremendous care on woodwind instruments generally, exploiting their various colours in music of unprecedented variety, brilliance and beauty. The Gran Partita is the greatest of all of Mozart’s works for winds. Hear it in this concert together with arrangements for wind ensemble of favourite melodies from Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute and Richard Strauss’s youthful woodwind Serenade, itself a homage to the music of Strauss’s idol, Mozart.
