Grieg and more with Henning Kraggerud
One of the most versatile musicians on the planet, Henning Kraggerud appears as violinist, director, composer and arranger in this concert. He performs as co-soloist in his original composition, Variations for Violin and Cello, and Saint-Saëns’ La muse et le poète, a little known gem for violin, cello and orchestra. Another French morsel is “Meditation” from Thaïs, one of the best-loved miniatures ever written for violin.
Old and new meet head-on in the Violin Concerto in G, an orchestration by Kraggerud and Bernt Lund of Grieg’s Violin Sonata No 2. If Kraggerud and Lund pay homage to fellow Norwegian Grieg in the Violin Concerto, Grieg honoured music of an earlier time in From Holberg’s Time (also known as the Holberg Suite), a loving tribute to music of the Baroque.
