A violinist of dazzling prowess and heartfelt emotion
Karen Gomyo created a sensation when she first appeared with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in 2015. A violinist of dazzling prowess and heartfelt emotion, she promises a night to remember when she performs Bruch’s Violin Concerto No 1, a work which has been described as “the richest, the most seductive” of all Romantic violin concertos.
Although numbered fifth among Mendelssohn’s five symphonies, the Reformation is an early work, brimming with youthful energy and ingenuity. It presents a compendium of different musical traditions and textures including the Lutheran chorale, old-school polyphony and Beethovenian drama. Humperdinck’s Prelude to Hansel and Gretel draws from the opera’s most beguiling melodies while Delius’s The Walk to the Paradise Garden is a gentle, understated tone poem on themes of love and longing.
