David is the winner of Australia’s “Operatunity Oz” competition, a joint production between Opera Australia and the ABC which was televised late in 2006. Other competition successes include winning the 2013 Opera Foundation Australia Vienna State Opera Award, the 2009 Opera Foundation Australia Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship and being placed as a finalist in the McDonald’s Operatic Aria. During David’s time in Vienna, among his many cover and small stage responsibilities he also performed the role of the Imperial Commissioner in Madama Butterfly for the Vienna State Opera.

David studies vocal technique with Glenn Winslade and Sharolyn Kimmorley AM. He also holds a Bachelor of Computer Engineering from the University of Sydney.

David’s recent roles have included Sarastro (The Magic Flute), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), the King and Ramfis (Aida), Basilio (Barber of Seville), Colline (La bohème), Angelotti (Tosca), Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Horn (Un ballo in maschera) for which he received a Green Room Award nomination for Best Male in a Supporting Role and Sparafucile (Rigoletto) for Opera Australia; Sparafucile (Rigoletto) for Opera Queensland; Alcade (La forza del destino) and the King (Aida) for State Opera of Australia; and Samuel (David and Jonathan) for Pinchgut Opera. In 2014 David performed Sparafucile in Rigoletto for Opera Australia, and Ferrando in Il Trovatore for West Australian Opera.

On the concert platform David has performed in a Verdi Gala at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, La Fanciulla del West and the “Classical Spectacular” at the Rod Laver Arena with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra; Mozart’s Requiem with Queensland Symphony Orchestra; Verdi’s Requiem with Canberra Symphony Orchestra; Opera in the Arboretum, Pearl Beach; and Opera in the Vineyards, Stanthorpe.

As a principal artist with Opera Australia David’s roles in 2015 will include Colline in La bohème, Angelotti in Tosca, Ramfis in Aida (Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour) and Frate in Don Carlos. He will also cover the roles of Bonze in Madama Butterfly, Commendatore in  Don Giovanni, Grand Inquisitor in Don Carlos and Dr Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro for Opera Australia.
