The ACS is a training program for experienced orchestral composers. The two-year course is aimed at identifying and preparing composers for a career in orchestral composing.
It aims to create opportunities for graduating composers to achieve commissions from professional orchestras and others to write music.
Successful applicants to the ACS will work with some of Australia’s leading composers as well as the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra to hone their orchestral writing skills.
The ACS is open to Australian and New Zealand composers who have written for and worked with orchestras and have either a degree in composition or equivalent professional experience.
Applications for the 2026 - 2027 program close 9am, 17 April 2025.
Composer Fiona Hill is a participant in the 2024 - 2025 ACS and describes it as 'an invaluable experience' for her career.
'The experience of being in the room with an orchestra for a whole week and being immersed in that sound world is something that can’t be replicated in any other way. Learning from mentors and peers throughout the process has been incredible,' Fiona says.
