In addition to performing its core Hobart and Launceston concert seasons, as well as individual concerts around the state, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra collaborates with a wide spectrum of leading arts companies and artists in Tasmania and across Australia.
The TSO collaborates with Symphony Services International on leading national training programs which benefit musicians from Tasmania, interstate and overseas. In 2017 the TSO will repeat its Composers’ School and launch the Australian Conducting Academy, initiatives which run in conjunction with Symphony Services International and UTAS. Continuing in 2017 is the TSO’s Big Rehearsal with the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra. Additionally, the TSO collaborates with training organisations outside Tasmania such as the Melbourne-based Australian National Academy of Music, the nation’s premier institution for classically trained musicians, and the Australian Youth Orchestra.
The TSO continues its collaboration with ground-breaking Tasmanian arts organisation Mona, working with Mofo and Dark Mofo festivals on a range of collaborative projects. 2017 sees the start of a long term partnership with Victorian Opera, beginning with the August 12 concert performance of Carmen, and The Australian Ballet’s 2017 regional tour of Giselle, which featured a TSO recording of the score made exclusively for the AB. Australian and international contemporary recording artists, including Kate Miller-Heidke, Missy Higgins, Megan Washington, Tim Minchin and Ben Folds have appeared in concert with the TSO with further commercial collaborations in various stages of development.
