For those concerts where choral forces are required, the TSO is joined by the TSO Chorus.

The TSO Chorus is an auditioned group of over 80 voices, founded in 1992 to present concert performances of opera. Since then, the repertoire has broadened to embrace masses, requiems and symphonies for chorus and orchestra, as well as a diverse array of sacred and secular a cappella works. The Chorus has recently returned to its opera roots with the Helpmann Award-winning performance of Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde (2016), Bizet’s Carmen (2017) and this year, Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. In addition to concerts with the TSO, highlights across the past 25 years include performances with the Sydney Symphony, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Australian International Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. With a reputation for innovative performances under the direction of Chorusmaster June Tyzack, the TSO Chorus kicked off a busy year with two “Extreme” performances at MOFO, maintaining their distinctive presence at MONA (previous performances at MOFO, Dark MOFO and Synaesthesia). Retaining the buzz of being one of The Mercury’s “don’t miss” things to see at MOFO, the Chorus continues the year with performances of Grieg Peer Gynt, Mendelssohn A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fauré Requiem and Handel Messiah. The Chorus will cap off the year with a Regional Tour to Campbell Town and Cygnet presenting excerpts of Handel’s Messiah.

The TSO Chorus welcomes new members. If you are interested in joining a diverse group of choristers and singing a variety of repertoire at the highest standard, contact the Chorus Coordinator on 03 6232 4421 or visit the website for more information,
