In addition to its principal activity of giving concert seasons in Hobart and Launceston and individual concerts elsewhere in the state, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra collaborates with other arts organisations in Tasmania and interstate. In this way, it fosters collegiality within the arts sector and plays its part in maintaining a vibrant and healthy arts culture.

In 2016 the TSO continues to work with Mofo, Dark Mofo and Festival of Voices on a range of collaborative projects. Also continuing in 2016 is the TSO’s Big Rehearsal with the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra.

Additionally, the TSO collaborates with organisations outside Tasmania such as the Melbourne-based Australian National Academy of Music, the nation’s premier institution for classically trained musicians, and the Australian Youth Orchestra. It also collaborates with Symphony Services International on training programs which benefit musicians from Tasmania, interstate and overseas. In 2016 the TSO will host a Composers’ School and Conductors’ School, initiatives which are run in conjunction with Symphony Services International.
