Meet the TSO

TSO Chorus

From the Concert Hall to the beach, from Hong Kong to Berlin, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus has sung all over. Our choristers do it for the love of it and they’ve been doing it for more than 30 years.

In Australia, the TSO Chorus has collaborated with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria.

Internationally, our Chorus has performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and in Mitsing concerts in Berlin and Barcelona. It was one of nine international choirs to premiere a work by British composer, Roxanna Panufnik, in the Berlin Philharmonie.

The Chorus has a proud history of presenting repertoire that spans the 17th and 21st century Passions of JS Bach and Richard Mills and includes a wealth of liturgical works from Haydn to Bernstein. It has also performed choral symphonies of Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Mahler, the Incidental Music of Mendelssohn and Grieg, and operas by Verdi, Bizet and Wagner.

The 60-strong chorus performs regularly with the TSO in the Federation Concert Hall and in a cappella concerts for events such as Dark Mofo, 10 Days on the Island and Festival of Voices. For The Sunrise Project, a video demonstrating the resilience of choristers in the pandemic, the Chorus performed Ola Gjeilo’s The Ground as the emotional backdrop to sensational local scenery.
