About the Program
Guitarist Slava Grigoryan appears as soloist in Nigel Westlake’s Antarctica Suite, an enthralling evocation of the harsh beauty of the White Continent, the wildlife that dwells there and the explorers and scientists who have lived and worked in its challenging environment. Vaughan Williams’ London Symphony ushers in a different world altogether while Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite includes two of his most celebrated miniatures, the sublime ‘Morning Mood’ and the exhilarating ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King.’ With music from Australia, Norway and the United Kingdom, White Continent commemorates a century of kinship between Antarctic nations and forms part of the celebrations to mark the Antarctic Centennial Year.
Pre-concert talk at 6.30pm with Dr Abby Fraser FREE to ticket holders.
