One of the greatest of all works for violin and orchestra, Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy is a virtuosic and deeply expressive riff on traditional Celtic folk melodies. Hear it performed by Jun Yi Ma, TSO Concertmaster. Mozart’s Symphony No 40 is among the crowning achievements of an extraordinary but all-too-brief career. Darker hued than most of the composer’s symphonies, it presents Mozart at his most searching and profound. Kodaly’s Summer Evening evokes the charming and idyllic pleasures of a gentler, simpler life. Conducted by Arvo Volmer, this is perfect music for a Friday afternoon!
