Letonja & Hudson
2:30pm Friday 26 Jul 2013 | Venues
A love offering like no other, the Siegfried Idyll was written in secret, rehearsed on the sly and performed as a surprise birthday gift for Wagner’s wife. Not sure whether she was awake or still dreaming, Cosima Wagner first heard this heavenly music as it drifted through the house on the morning of her 33rd birthday. There was nothing secretive about the first performance of Haydn’s Drumroll Symphony, a work that enjoyed immediate success in London in 1795 and has been a firm favourite ever since. Be part of a first performance yourself as Lloyd Hudson, TSO Principal Piccolo, gives the Tasmanian première of Paul Stanhope’s Piccolo Concerto.
